The first time in college that I had to do my own laundry and realized I had no idea how to sort my laundry because my mom always did it for me — because she never trusted me to do my own laundry since that one time I was ten years old and added bleach to the mixed-color load in the washer. I didn’t repeat that mistake in the dorm laundry washer, but I still ruined my favorite (delicate) tops by setting the load to high speed in hot water, followed by a hot dryer. Live and learn.
